As we all know, packaging is everywhere. Everywhere we look, packaging holds the things we want, and the things we need. It is great to see that quality products put more effort into their packaging, making them stand out from others. People that put time and thought in their products show concern for the consumer and the overall experience designed for them. Being a fan of great looking packaging, and having designed some packaging myself, I understand the effects the design has on purchasing power, brand image, identity, and quality.
However, recently, sustainability and recyclability is becoming more and more apparent in all types of packaging. Many things are made of recycled paper, recycled plastics, post-consumer waste, and other things that have less of an impact on the environment. However, at the grocery store for example, if i buy a drink and a sandwich, I do not want/need a bag (even if it is made of recycled paper). One thing I have been noticing is that since the packaging is already recycled people think it is alright to overuse it and even worse, not recycle it again. It is the designer’s responsibility when designing sustainable and ecological packaging, to not only make wise material selections but also make intelligent use of the materials in the design.
That being said, hope you enjoy these awesome projects.
